Beryl on Muscovite

Gilgit, Pakistan - 5x5x5.5 cm

This specimen was the first beryl from Pakistan entering the collection. It was shopped at Corrado Vietti at the Roma Mineral Show in the end of the 80's, when beryls of high quality were still rather uncommon on the market. This crystal literally justifies the name "aquamarine" usually adopted for the blue beryls. Here the color is quite pale and the crystal (3 cm tall) is slightly too much embedded in the surrounding mica, but the purity and the transparency of this specimen are really astonishing. A marvelous gem.
