Calcite on Siderite

Capoterra, Cagliari - 5.5x3x3.5 cm

A marvelous group of hexagonal, parallel and lustrous calcite crystals. The largest measures 2.7 cm and the very aerial position allows to fully appreciate the clearness of any component. The group rests upon some a small, well-balanced rock and at the base some thin crystals of brown siderite complete this exquisite miniature. Note the appealing streakes on the external faced and the very sharp edges. For a long time I was in doubt if the first picture here were to be used on my homepage! Acquired at the Roma Mineral Show in 2006.
