Titanite on Pericline and Chlorite

Alpe Waid (Habach), Austria - 20x14x10 cm

When I traded this large cabinet with an old friend of San Candido (in exchange for a beryl from Afghanistan) in 1992, he valued it one million old lire! Almost 20 years ago, I can assure it was a very high quotation and this can give you an idea of the value that the local collectors give to their alpine titanites. This large plate of periclino and clorite is filled with micro-crystals of bright, brown titanites and includes a notable, vertically placed crystal of 1.1 cm. The titanite is transparent and lustrous and exhibits a wonderful chromatic contrast with the white matrix. Very nice!
